“Yes father, after due reflection, I have decided to go for rhinology”
“A nose doctor in our family! You make me proud, son. Which nostril?”
Welcome to the age of hyperspecialization, where knowing more and more about less and less is praised as a faster, cheaper, more efficient model… However when the patient is treated as little more than the sum of his ailing parts, we may fail to treat a whole person.
Let us step back and learn to see the whole picture before this fiction become a reality!
